Mesenchymal Stem Cell Treatment for Pneumonia
Pneumonia is a serious disease in Irish Wolfhounds, and can be fatal. With funding from the IWF, researchers at the University of Florida are investigating a novel therapy: the use of MSCs in the treatment of pneumonia. All dogs will receive standard treatment for pneumonia at the University of Florida in Gainesville; some dogs will also receive an infusion of MSCs, and outcomes will be compared. The study is open to all breeds, but we are hoping to enroll Irish Wolfhounds, particularly those with recurrent pneumonia. Participation criteria and study entry information are available on the University of Florida website at https://research.vetmed.ufl.edu/canine-mesenchymal-stem-cell-clinical-trial-for-pneumonia/
