Non-conventional and Complementary Medicine
Non-conventional (a.k.a., Alternative) and Complementary medicine is anything outside the scope of "conventional" medicine, including things like non-prescription supplements, scupuncture, chiropractic, and massage therapy. Sometimes things are replacements for the conventional alternative, and sometimes they are used in tandem. Your veterinarian should be made aware of any supplements you choose to use as some have an effect on the use of other medications or surgery.
